CIMB KL Open 2011: Semi Final
The semi final of CIMB KL Open squash championship was held in Berjaya Times Square on 20th March. In the 1st match, Karim Darwish beat Frenchman Gregoire Marche in a loop-sided affair, winning 11-6, 11-5, 11-3 in just 29 min of play. The next women's match between Madeline Perry of Ireland and Annie Au of Hong Kong however was a 62 min long thriller, with Perry emerging the victor.
Malaysia's hope Azlan Iskandar, was up against 2nd seed Mohamed El Shorbagy of Egypt in the 64 min long 3rd match. Despite winning the 1st game 11-8, Azlan failed to wrap up the 2nd game, losing 12-14. This proved costly as Shorbagy stepped up his pace and won the next 2 set 11-7, 11-5. It will be an all Egypt affair in the men's final.
World No. 1 and Malaysia's squash queen Nicol David took the court next against England's Alison Waters. 1st set went to David 11-7 but Waters fought back in the 2nd set, forcing a tiebreak but David went on to win 12-10. In the 3rd set, David seems to have regained the upper hand, controlling the play and winning 11-5. The match took just 36 min.
